Position Summary: We’re seeking energetic individuals (16+) who love being around kids, enjoy a fun environment, and want to make a positive impact every single day. As a Lifeguard, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of all members enjoying our pool area Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine helps kids and teens every day by providing a safe place for them to dream big, learn lots, find their voice, have fun, and grow into great adults. The Lifeguard is responsible for effectively and safely supervising members in our indoor pool environment.
Mon-Fri: Full Time and Part Time shifts available
Hours: 9a-5p, 9a-1p or 1p-5p
Dates: June 15 - Aug 14
Must be 16 years of age or older
Responsibilities:
-Monitor and supervise pool activities to prevent accidents
- Enforce safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe environment
- Respond quickly and effectively to all emergencies
- Provide excellent guest services and assistance as needed
- Assist with laundry services and other cleaning tasks as assigned
- Accompany staff to weekly beach trips
Skills:
- Certification in Lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid (REQURIED or willing to recert)
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary
- Proficient swimmer with the ability to respond swiftly in emergency situation.
- Experience coaching swim teams or teaching swimming lessons, preferred.
- Two or more years of lifeguard experience, preferred.
- Prior experience working with youth ages 6-18.
- Bilingual in Portuguese, Lingala, French or Somali a plus!
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check. Work Environment
- Locker Room/ Indoor Pool deck environment
- Must be able to lift, carry, reach, grab, bend, push or pull up to 50 pounds at times.
- Must be able to traverse facility and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
- May be required to stand or sit for long periods of time of at least 4 hours per day.
- Ability to be in water for long periods of time during shift
Only candidates with a valid lifeguard certification will be considered.
